Step-by-Step EFT Tapping for Panic Attacks

1. Notice and rate it

Notice what is happening in your body — racing heart, tight chest, shallow breathing, tension, or spinning thoughts.

Rate the intensity from 0 to 10.

2. Tap the side of your hand

Tap gently on the side of your hand and say:

“Even though I’m feeling this anxiety right now, I accept myself and I’m open to calming my body.”

You can change the words to fit what you feel:

“This panic.”
“This tight chest.”
“This racing feeling.”
“This fear in my body.”

3. Tap through the points

Tap gently while repeating a short phrase like “this anxiety” or “this panic.”

Top of head · Eyebrow · Side of eye · Under eye · Under nose · Chin · Collarbone · Under arm

4. Pause and check again

Take a slow breath. Notice your body. Rate the intensity again from 0 to 10.

Even a small drop matters. It means your nervous system is starting to respond.

5. Repeat if needed

Go through another round, focusing on what is still strongest:

“The rest of this panic.”
“This remaining tightness.”
“Part of me still feels unsafe.”

 

Important: EFT can help calm panic, but if you have severe chest pain, fainting, trouble breathing, or symptoms that feel medically concerning, get medical help right away.

EFT Tapping has been extensively investigated for anxiety.

In a large-scale study of 5000 patients seeking
treatment for anxiety across 11 clinics over a 5.5-year period:

* With EFT tapping therapy: significant improvement in 90% of the participants, vs. only 63% the Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) participants.

* Only 3 tapping sessions were needed before anxiety reduced, while an average of 15 was needed for CBT. 

* With EFT tapping, 76% of people had complete relief of symptoms, compared with only 51%  with CBT.

* One year later, the improvements with EFT treatment lasted in 78% of the tapping group, 9% more than with CBT.

Other studies also indicate equivalence or superiority over CBT.
